Our Story
For well over a century, Murdick’s Fudge of Petoskey has been a beloved part of Northern Michigan’s sweet tradition. Established in 1887 and nestled in the heart of Petoskey’s Historic Gaslight District, our shop has become a familiar stop for generations of families returning year after year for their favorite homemade treats.
We are a family-owned business that proudly continues the time-honored craft of fudge-making, using original recipes passed down through the decades. Every batch is made with care, using only all-natural ingredients and the same techniques that have made Murdick’s a trusted name for over 135 years. Alongside our famous fudge, you’ll find a variety of hand-pulled taffy, crisp peanut brittle, buttery caramel corn, and other timeless confections—all made in-house with intention and pride.
In 1993, we added a new chapter to our story with the launch of Petoskey Popcorn Co., our small-batch popcorn line that has quickly become a favorite in its own right. Created by Paul Vigneau and his father Tim, Petoskey Popcorn was born out of a shared love of caramel corn and a commitment to doing it right. After two years of experimenting with recipes and cooking methods, they perfected a process that includes slow-cooked copper kettle caramel made with local Michigan butter, pure cane sugar, and jumbo non-GMO popcorn kernels that deliver a full-flavor, perfect pop every time.
You’ll find both Murdick’s Fudge and Petoskey Popcorn Co. under one roof at 311 Howard Street, where the air is often filled with the sweet scent of fudge being poured or a fresh batch of caramel corn cooling on the table. We invite you to stop in and experience the handcrafted goodness that’s made us a Petoskey favorite for generations.
